Product claims and evidence

This page explains what our product statements mean, which product and market each one applies to, and how to ask us for the documents behind them.

What this page does not say

We do not claim that every statement on this site has been independently verified. Some figures come from testing commissioned on specific samples; some describe a programme we operate; some are customer experience. They are different kinds of statement and should not be read as the same thing. If you want to know which is which for a specific sentence, ask us and we will tell you what exists.

Three kinds of statement

Most questions about our claims are really questions about which category a sentence belongs to.

Measured performance figures

Numbers such as tested dust emission under 0.35%, ammonia removal 98%, clumping strength 97% or odour control up to 20 days come from testing carried out on specific samples under specific methods. A figure describes what happened under those test conditions. It is not a promise of an identical result in every home, with every cat, in every climate.

Customer experience

Reviews, ratings and customer photos describe how individual people found the product. They are collected from our sales channels and personal details are removed before publication. Customer experience is useful and real, but it is not laboratory testing and we do not present it as test evidence.

Programme and policy facts

Statements about how something works — for example our empty-tub return programme — describe arrangements we operate. These are commitments rather than measurements, and the details differ from market to market.

Check the product and the market first

CATPAK cat litter and Waggle dog litter are sold in more than one pack size and in more than one market. Our current store serves the United States, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia. Pack sizes, availability, price, delivery and return arrangements are set per market and change over time.

  • A figure shown on one product page applies to that product, not automatically to every CATPAK or Waggle item.
  • Availability differs: a product listed in one market may not be listed in another.
  • Our empty-tub return programme runs in more than one market, with arrangements confirmed locally. It is not limited to any single market.

What a test report actually tells you

If you ask us for documentation, these are the things worth checking — in any report, from any brand.

Who commissioned the test, and on what sample
A report covers the exact material or item submitted. A different pack size or a later production batch is not automatically covered.
Which method or standard was used
The method defines what the number means. The same word — for example odour control — can be measured in more than one way.
The date
A test describes the sample as it was on the test date.
The scope the conclusion covers
A conclusion applies to what was tested, under the conditions stated. It does not extend beyond that.

Customer experience is not laboratory evidence

We publish real customer reviews, including reviews imported from the channels where our products are sold, with personal details removed. Individual comments describe individual use. We do not treat them as testing, and we do not present a review as proof of a measured figure.

Ask us for the documents

If a statement matters to your decision, ask us about it directly. Tell us three things and we can give you a straight answer.

  1. The exact product and pack size
  2. The market you are buying in
  3. The sentence you are asking about

We will tell you what document exists, what it covers, and what it does not. If we do not have a document that covers your question, we will say so rather than imply otherwise.
